![]() Caspar and his female mate literally paces back and forth about a metre and a half from our noses. That said, they are most certainly NOT a sad sight as some have suggested! I cannot afford to go on safari but I don’t think I would get as close or feel as safe as this. I have been coming to the island all my life and its is one of the most rewarding experiences in terms of value for money and the sheer pleasure of seeing big cats up close and the keepers are all clearly devoted to these rescue animals and work tirelessly to rehabilitate them. We hope you come back, and we hope you like what you see. Please visit us and be inspired by our animals to take action. Our mission - To inspire and empower people to take positive action to protect our planet and the animals we share it with can only be delivered through the work we undertake and the empowerment we give those who visit us. Every penny we make here gets ploughed back into the zoo and the conservation projects we support. Conservation is our key message here at the zoo and our animals work as ambassadors for their wild counterparts. We take on board your comments regarding the shop which are unfortunate, but clearly we can not please everyone. Same goes for our Pluto exhibit with work in the planning stages for a major refurb. ![]() Cafe wise we are halfway through our renovations so you are right it is sparse because the new furniture is currently on order and will be painted soon now that the Easter rush is over and we can close some areas off. With regards to our visitor experience, we are sorry you feel this way as we work incredibly hard with our animologists and staff (tour guides) to ensure that everyone gets a real feel for the family environment we have here. But should you wish to discuss them further we would certainly welcome a a call with you and invite you to ring us. Your comments regarding neglect and poor management lack knowledge of our history and are offensive. We do not hide this fact and openly tell people through our online presence what our collection holds. We simply do not have the capacity or resource to have an extensive collection due to our land footprint but choose to focus on key species where were feel we can add value, and provide key conservation messaging - namely primates and big cats - almost all of which are rescues. This is not a recovery mode, this is a change from a family run to a charitable environment. Our zoo is small and we are a fledgling charity. With regards to your comments stating we are in a recovery mode. Firstly we are not loosing our Animal Manager so please rest assured that our enthusiastic team will continue to be in safe hands. Just wanted to clarify a couple of points. A very cheaply made mug with a zoo transfer logo at £10 stood out for me I checked on London Zoo who sell a bone china mug for £5-6! I would encourage people to visit because it is the footfall which creates income, also ticket pricing seemed to charge more for children than adults.ĭear dave_hill1941 Thank you for your feedback. The shop has a selection of tatty overpriced items a poor strategy for promoting revenue. The Zoo reception & shop layout needs addressing it is quite gloomy & uninviting the layout is odd. The Pluto exhibit is simply awful so much could be done to enhance this piece of WW2 history this could be a real crowd puller if done well. The cafe is sparse with a bland decor plus the make good aspect to providing good service. They are missing some opportunities to enhance the visitor experience. This is evident by some run down buildings etc. The zoo is recovering from what must be years of neglect & probable poor management. ![]() There are a number of rescued big cats for example. Therefore there is a limited but interesting collection of animals on display in well appointed enclosures. First the Zoo is in a recovery mode with much of the location around the animals under renovation. Unfortunately their leader is leaving to work at Chester Zoo however I am certain that his replacement will no doubt carry on where he left off. Firstly the animals are very well cared for by an enthusiastic, young team. ![]()
